| The
Locust Grove Nature Center Friends
Group was formed to sustain and
promote the nature center facility and
resources, as well as its
naturalist-led programs and special
events.
These interpretive programs and
resources help people appreciate the
wonders in their own
backyards. |
 |
The
Friends sponsor numerous family, adult
and children’s programs. Family
programs include Full Moon Walks,
Seasonal Hikes, Owl Prowls, and more.
Children’s programs include
Discovery Hikes, Nature Storytimes,
Puppet Shows, and the Junior
Naturalist Series.
Most of the programs take place in
Cabin John Regional Park. This
suburban park, on the edge of North
Bethesda, occupies almost 500 acres of
wooded property bisected by Cabin John
Creek.
The oak-hickory forest has
miles of trails that offer the chance
to explore nature. Fields, wetlands
and stream banks lie within a quick
walk of Locust Grove Nature Center and
are the backdrop for insect, birding
and water explorations. The meeting
place for most of the programs is the
nature center itself.
The Nature Center hours are
9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through
Saturday.
Annual
memberships are available at
individual, family, and corporate
levels.
Members are entitled to attend
special events such as picnics,
campfires, family programs and more!
