OAKLEY CABIN Special Activities for 2007
April 7	Oakley Cabin Opens	12 noon to 4 pm
	Located at 3610 Brookeville Road, Brookeville, MD, Oakley Cabin will be open every Saturday through October.
April 14	Mantizm Adze	1 - 3 pm (rain date 04/21)
	Mantizm Adze, a local group performing West African dances with professional drummers will celebrate the 2007 Grand Re-opening of Oakley Cabin. The program will start with a libation that calls upon sacred ancestral spirits to bless the event.
May 12	Michael Twitty	1 - 3 pm (rain or shine)
	Michael Twitty, author and expert on the foodways of Enslaved Afro-Marylanders, will discuss and cook dishes that include homegrown and heritage ingredients. If weather permits, he will lead a ‘wild-crafting’ walk looking for native foods.
June 23 & 24	Montgomery County Heritage Days	12 noon - 4 pm
November 4	Emancipation Day	12 - 4 pm (rain or shine)
	Celebration of Emancipation of Slaves in Maryland with music, food, re-enactors and tours of the Cabin. Maryland was the first Southern slave holding state to emancipate its slaves when it adopted, by popular vote, a new constitution on November 1, 1864. The celebration will be from noon to 4 pm with re-enactors and historical demonstrations. There will be a program from 2-3pm with a speaker and a chorus singing gospel songs.
